WordPress Continues to Frustrate

So, last time I modified my site I made the seemingly reasonable decision that my visitors didn’t really need to see the admin stuff; thus, I deleted the “Meta” widget from the home page. Little did I realize that I wouldn’t be able to log in as Administrator anymore. There was really no easy way to get to the login.

I guess that was my own naivete, but it sure made me mad. I finally found a roundabout way to get in by going to the WordPress main site and finding a link to my site, but by the time I got there I wasn’t nearly as enthusiastic about working on it.

Next thing: If you happen to visit the Film & Media page, you’ll notice that the Wild at Heart title looks as if it has a typo in it. Nope, it’s not a typo; it’s just that in the H4 headers of WordPress lower-case i looks exactly like lower-case l. Handy, huh?

New WordPress Pages Added and Linked

I’m finally starting to get somewhere with WordPress, although it took a tremendous amount of hair-pulling and patience.

Take my advice: If you ever decide to put up your own WordPress blog, do not attempt to do so without reading all the basic introductory material and watching all the video tutorials while following along. You can look at the WordPress menus and THINK you can do it on your own, but you’ll just create a mess and have to start over.

New Logo for My Site

If you’ve been following my site, which so far no one is, you will have noticed that I changed my logo. As I mentioned in my previous post, I originally wanted a photo of the blue box that is so crucial to the theme of the film Mulholland Dr. I had a difficult time, though, finding one that would look nice with the big photo of Betty and Rita in the background.

I finally decided to use, at least for now, a picture of a neon clock. I absolutely love neon clocks, as I’m sure will become evident in my future posts. In fact, if I ever figure out how to add pages to my site there will certainly be at least one devoted to neon clocks. The clock design you see in my current logo is called Brent. I have no idea why; I didn’t name it. The guy who designed and built this clock is Curtis Stimpson. Curtis is located in Burbank, California, and he has a website called Curtis Clocks. Be sure to visit! Curtis is a great guy and he makes the most awesome clocks I’ve ever seen. (And Curtis, if you ever happen to read this, I really mean what I’m saying!)

Little by Little

I finally broke down and called WordPress support. I got a really knowledgeable and helpful guy named Angel who gave me about a five-minute kick start in navigating my way around the WordPress editor. I’ve now figured out how to add a logo to my site and I’ve also added a link to another site.

I don’t want to try to do too much yet because I’m not yet sure exactly where I want to go with this whole thing. I also don’t want to fry my brain.

I really need to change my logo. I wanted an image of the blue box, but I can’t find a suitable one.

Trials and Tribulations of WordPress and BlueHost

Okay, I have to admit to being utterly lost in this whole frigging process. Nothing is intuitive at all. I feel lucky just to be able to edit anything. The WordPress login process is absolutely impossible to understand. I ask it for a new password, it gives me one, then two minutes later it won’t accept it.

I hope no one ever asks my opinion of WordPress because right now I would tell them it’s a total piece of shit.

Vic’s Ramblings

This is my first blog post. When my site is fully up and running, I’m hoping to use it as a forum to express my views on various serious topics, such as politics, guns, and climate change. I also plan to discuss less grave (and more light-hearted) subject matter, including, but not limited to, world travel, indie films (with emphasis on David Lynch) and computer games.
